Pro-Rata Salary for Part-Time Workers

Pro-rata means “in proportion.” If a job is advertised as £35,000 full-time (37.5 hours/week) but you work 22.5 hours, your pro-rata salary is £35,000 × (22.5 ÷ 37.5) = £21,000.

Why Pro-Rata Matters

Understanding your pro-rata salary is essential for comparing part-time roles, negotiating pay, and budgeting. Your holiday entitlement, pension contributions and other benefits are also calculated pro-rata.

Furlough Pay

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme paid 80% of an employee’s salary up to £2,500/month. While the scheme has ended, this calculator retains furlough estimation for reference purposes.
